Mechanism
The first signs of skin aging usually start with wrinkles on the surface. Therefore, the important role of anti-wrinkle products as anti-aging products is self-evident. In the past few years, peptides have become an important ingredient in reducing wrinkles. Skin aging, especially skin degenerative changes caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays, is typically characterized by significant changes in the composition of the extracellular matrix of the dermis. The undesirable consequences include the skin being more prone to ulceration, hardening of the skin, and the appearance and formation of wrinkles. Collagen is the main component of the ECM of the dermal connective tissue, and a large amount of it is lost to form wrinkles. (Figure-2).
TGF-β (transforming growth factor) is believed to play a key role in collagen synthesis. TSP, namely thrombospondin I and Arg-Phe-Lys in the inactive prerequisite sequence of TGF-β can be induced to release the active TGF-β.
TSP is a multifunctional protein that can activate the inactive precursor of TGF-β (tissue growth factor). Therefore, a molecule that can activate TGF-β will be an ideal anti-wrinkle product, as an effective repair molecule to accelerate the production of new collagen. Palmitoyl tripeptide-5 can effectively make up for the lack of collagen in the skin by simulating the body’s own TGF-β to produce collagen, and make the skin younger.
